Pest Control

Bed bugs. Before this summer, I had always laughed off bed bugs as being some type of ancient myth or urban legend. Boy, was I in for a rude awakening at summer camp. About 3 weeks into camp, a few of my girls started complaining about these red spots that were on their arms and legs. These red spots usually came in three's and itched like crazy. When I took them to get checked with the nurse, she wasn't sure if it was bed bugs. We had to call in the experts. Sure enough--our cabin was home to bed bugs. I thought they were joking. I wasn't laughing when they told me I had to do wash all the clothes, bedding, and shoes that we had in the cabin. There were 8 girls in my cabin, 9 including myself. They each had at least 2 pairs of tennis shoes. They all had sleeping bags and/or bed sheets needing to be washed. All this had to be done by the next morning. With the help of 2 other counselors, we got all of it washed, or atleast enough for them to wear the next day. It took about 24 hours, maybe more, to get everything washed and returned to their owners. It was a nightmare. I will never again laugh at bed bugs.
